Exhibition The Spirit of West African Textiles. The beauty and diversity of West African textiles are displayed in a colorful variety of more than fifty objects including costumes, blankets, fabrics, and textile masks. Organized and circulated by the Council for Creative Projects, the exhibition examines the creation and use of wearable art with emphasis on the design and technique employed by its makers. Musicorda The program's eleventh season celebrates the 200th anniversary of Schubert's birth, with performances of six of his works. The Musicorda Summer String Program is a six-week training program for gifted and advanced string students from around the world. Concerts begin tonight and will be held for six consecutive Fridays. Well-known musicians will present "informances" before each concert. Informances are introductions that are an entertaining blend of information and informal performance describing the evenings' works.

Tonight's concert will feature Telemann's Gulliver Suite, a highly imaginative duet for two violins performed by resident artists Masuko Ushida and Anton Miller, and the lighthearted Poulenc Sonata for Cello and Piano, played by renowned French cellist Phillipe Muller and pianist Michael Adcock. The musical evening will conclude with Schubert's posthumous Quartet in G Major, performed by the St. Petersburg String Quartet. For ticket information, call 538-2590.
