Blanchard's Makeover: "Same Location, Different Place"
By the first week of September, Blanchard Cafe in Blanchard Campus Center will have a new look and feature many new menu items. And Blanchard is poised to become a late-night hangout spot when the student-run Coffee Grind moves there from Eliot House.
The food-serving area will be reorganized using "more of a deli concept," according to Dining Services director Dale Hennessey. The new Blanchard Cafe will feature more "grab-and-go" sandwiches, several kinds of ready-made salads, about twenty choices of soda fountain drinks, Healthy Choice [low fat] meats, new tortilla-wrap sandwiches, Freshens frozen yogurt, and Starbucks coffee, she says. Some hot food specials will remain, but more emphasis will go into the types of foods that have sold best in the past.
Blanchard will serve food weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm. After their kitchen closes, the Coffee Grind will take over, serving pizza, fruit smoothies, appetizers, beer, wine, and--of course--coffee from 9 pm until 1 am every Sunday through Wednesday. High cafe tables and chairs in one section of Blanchard will add to the Grind's cozy feeling.
Hennessey says the transition is made possible by great staff effort; they hope to reap the benefits of all their work by having the community embrace the new offerings. "This is a new beginning and hopefully the springboard to what people want in the future," she said.
