Weekend Dining Changes this Year Mean More Varied Food, Fewer Dining Rooms

For some students, weekend eating will change significantly this fall. Starting in September, only the nine dining rooms designated as luncheon centers will serve weekend meals. Other kitchens will close after breakfast Fridays and not reopen--except for Sunday brunch--until breakfast on Mondays. In addition, M&Cs will be served Sunday-Thursday only. Students can dine in any luncheon center they choose on weekends. On Sundays, dinner is extended by half an hour (5:00-6:30 pm) to accommodate the varying schedules of students returning to campus after a weekend away.
Under the new system, students can interact with others around campus during meals, and can take advantage of weekly "theme specials" planned by Dining Services. Dining services director Dale Hennessey says that each weekend one, several, or all of the dining halls will serve special items, such as charbroiled steak, a Mexican meal, wok stir-fry, or fish fry. Also, all luncheon centers will now have microwave ovens available at all times, and will feature pasta and sauce on the salad bars every day in addition to other entrees.
Hennessey says she is very interested in hearing from students about the new changes. She plans to review the new arrangements this semester.
