Pure movement

Renowned dancer, scholar, and teacher Sucheta Chapekar of Poona, India, gave an open master class to students in Modern Dance I on October 6. She demonstrated the dance technique and history of Bharata Natyam, the classical dance style of South India. Sucheta has over twenty-five years' experience in the field and has won national acclaim in India. In addition to the classicism of her interpretive style, Sucheta has contributed greatly to Indian dance history with her research in reconstructing the eighteenth-century classical canon of Tanjavur. She is currently a visiting scholar-dancer with the Battery Dance Company in New York.
