When is a marathon race only four miles long? When it's the "Marython" fun run/walk being organized by the Alumnae Association as the culmination of Mary Lyon's 200th birthday celebrations. The race, which will follow a route from the base of Mount Holyoke at Skinner State Park to Mary Lyon's campus grave, also commemorates the association's 125th anniversary.
The Marython isn't until November 9, but the preregistration deadline is October 27. The first hundred registrants will receive free T-shirts.
The event is a fundraiser for the Mary Lyon Education Fund, Inc. (MLEF), a nonprofit organization supporting excellence in the Mohawk Trail Regional School District. The suggested preregistration donation is $10 and/or a contribution of educational items for the fund. Call the Alumnae Association at x2300 for registration information and the MLEF's "wish list" of educational items.
October 15 is the deadline for turning in applications to develop projects on academic uses of the World Wide Web funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation's Teaching and Technology Program. Each professor whose project is accepted will be paired with a student Web technologist funded by the grant, and receive training in Web page conceptualization, design, and production. Application forms and further information are on the Web at http://www.mtholyoke.edu/lits/desktop/mellonweb.
Please complete and return your first-year survey as soon as possible to the registrar's office, 6 Mary Lyon Hall. If you need another copy of the survey, call Barbara Rodriguez at x2858 or pick one up in 101 Mary Lyon Hall.
Free, anonymous HIV testing and counseling are available to all Mount Holyoke students. There will be no documentation of this testing in your medical record and your name will not be associated with your test results. However, the HIV testing staff are Mount Holyoke Health Center employees, whom you may know from previous Health Center visits and whom you may see again. For further information or to schedule an appointment, call x2121 and choose option number three on the voice-mail answering system. No names are required.
New January internship opportunities are available! Internship descriptions are available at the CDC Resource Library; these include new opportunities at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Holyoke Family Practice, Time Warner, Evaluation Associates, Simon and Schuster, and many new opportunities at Mount Holyoke in human resources, at the botanic gardens, and at the health center. Come check out the new opportunities waiting for you.
If you couldn't attend a January Internship information session, you can still meet the requirement for participating in the January Internship Program by viewing the videotape of this meeting. The tape is available at the CDC; students should allow sixty minutes to view the entire tape. After watching the tape, students can fill out the January Internship application.
Reminder: All CDC-sponsored January internship materials are due during the deadline week of October 21 to 27.
