Employees in holiday finery mingled and munched hors d'oeuvres during the sixth annual Winterfest, as donations to the South Hadley Council on Aging piled up by the door. Workers applauded one another's longevity on the job as employees who have served the College for twenty, twenty-five, thirty, and thirty-five years were individually congratulated by President Creighton. She thanked all employees "for all the good work you've done on behalf of Mount Holyoke this year. One is aware as president of the number of tasks that make up one excellent college." Dean of administration Wayne Gass, (left) has served the College under seven presidents (including interim ones), took the honors as the sole thirty-five-year MHC veteran. When only one of Gass's pair of engraved book-ends arrived in time for the presentation, Creighton quipped, "If you stay another thirty-five years, you get the other one." Retiring employees were recognized by Staff Council cochair Dawn Larder, who will take over as next year's Winterfest coordinator from Rosemary Jackson, who coordinated the first six events. |
