Mount Holyoke College Employee Scholarship Fund in Honor of President Emeritus David B. Truman $200 is awarded each year to a qualified child of a Mount Holyoke staff member who is not eligible for the Mount Holyoke subsidy for tuition costs. This scholarship is to be used at an accredited school for secondary education. Application forms available from the financial aid office or from Staff Council members. Deadline: May 9.

Summer Program Directory Available The Child Care Focus Program has available the 1998 summer program directory. Anyone in the MHC community is welcome to pick up the directory in the human resources department, Skinner Hall.

Department of English Prizes for Writing The following prizes are to be awarded this year in the English department: Virginia Lee Barnes Prize for the best critical essay by a senior in English, American studies, medieval studies, or women's studies; Gertrude Calytor: Academy of American Poets for a poem or group of poems of no more than four pages; Minnie Ryan Dwight Prize for excellence in journalistic writing; MacArthur-Leithauser Travel Award for creative writing; Sydney Robertson McLean Prize for a short story; Anne Singer Award for poetry, story, play, or any other form of creative writing. For details on submitting entries and to pick up an application form, please stop by the English department office in 201 Clapp Laboratory. The deadline for all entries is 4 pm, Monday April 27.

Preregistration for Fall 1998-99 The academic advising and preregistration period for fall semester 1998-99 is Monday through Friday, April 13-17. All students who intend to be on campus in the fall must register during this period. Student registration packets will be delivered to the residence halls on Thursday, April 9. Day student packets will be delivered to the campus post office. Five College information and registration forms will be available at the Office of the Registrar beginning Monday, April 13. Students should contact their advisers for appointments in sufficient time to obtain all necessary course or departmental approvals and final adviser approval by deadline to submit forms, Friday, April 17.
