Is innocence evaporating? Patricia Ramsey, professor of psychology and education, was among the people USA Today spoke to recently about the challenges facing parents raising kids in today's "open-door society." Nearly nine in ten people polled agreed that "it is harder today to raise kids to be 'good people' than it was twenty years ago." Many parents "blame the technology that has exploded in children's lives," the October 1 article noted. "Parents fear these machines isolate their children, and they fear the messages they send about sex, violence, and materialism." Ramsey, the mother of two boys, asked, "How can I fight 500 channels on TV? ... I'm dealing with things my parents never had to deal with."
