An economics major at MHC, Walsh received her MPA (Master in Public Administration) from Princeton and her JD Law degree from Yale. Presently a staff attorney with the Division of Enforcement, Securities and Exchange Commission, New York City, she also has experience in financial analysis and has assisted in the legal representation of indigent persons on death row.

Works-in-Progress Talk "Writing Political Biography, Notes from an Activist." Jean Grossholtz, professor emeritus, MHC. How can one create an integrated political identity and act with integrity in a world of diverse struggles and diverse violence? Grossholtz will trace the meandering web of choices and struggles with and against the demands of external limitations. Mary Lyon Lecture "Monkey Bridge: The Bridge to America." Lan Cao '83, author of the widely praised novel "Monkey Bridge" and coauthor of "Everything You Need to Know About Asian American History." Her semi-autobiographical first novel tells the story of Mai Nguyen, a Vietnamese girl who is airlifted out of Saigon in the last days of the war and builds a new life for herself in America. Colloquium "Nineteenth-Century Feminism, Celibacy and Purity: The Grimkés, Anna Jameson, and Margaret Fuller." Kimberly Adams, Five College women's studies research associate, Philadelphia, PA. In the nineteenth century, the female body and female sexuality were used to deny women political rights, education, and vocations other than marriage and motherhood. Certain feminist intellectuals had considered the celibate life, often modeled on the lives of the Virgin Mary and female saints. However, there were disadvantages and advantages in excluding the body from feminist theorizing.
