College Responds to Student Employment Needs

A reduction in the hours students can work at the bell desks in residence halls means that some workers may be looking for additional work-study hours.

Responding to this need, the Career Development Office was given a list of all students who might be affected by the coming changes. Phil Jones, CDC director, says the office has set up an email distribution list to notify those students of openings for jobs in January and/or during second semester. "We are especially promoting off-campus jobs, many of which pay more than the bell-desk positions," Jones noted.

Jones will also head a task force charged with reviewing the student employment program. The group, which will be formed within the next few weeks, will develop strategies to match offices' needs for student workers with students' needs for jobs, and consider how the College can provide more attractive and professionally rewarding work-study experiences to students.
