Growing Student Interest Spurs New CDC Workshops

In response to increased student interest in these fields, the Career Development Center is holding workshops in international relations and public policy, arts administration, and environmental fields. "These are areas that have always sounded attractive and exciting to students, but students are often unsure about what's involved in the field or how to break into it," said Naledi Saul, CDC assistant director. "Breaking into these fields is also difficult because many not-for-profit and government organizations don't have the budgets to fund aggressive recruiting campaigns on college campuses."

So the CDC will provide the missing links between students' interest and career opportunities in these fields. The international relations and public policy workshop, scheduled for February 9, is a first for MHC. Workshops in the other areas will follow, and "dovetail nicely" with the not-for-profit job fairs in Washington, D.C., New York, and Boston to be held in March and April, according to Saul. "Since approximately one-third of students will enter the not-for-profit sector, we want to ensure that they are informed and prepared for what lies ahead."
