Early Deadlines for Graduate Fellowships Seniors interested in any of the major national fellowships for graduate study abroad should note these early deadlines. In some cases, the deadlines listed here are for preliminary applications, in others they are for completed applications. These awards generally require U.S. citizenship and a record of high academic achievement (3.5 GPA for some, 3.7 for others). Further information is available online on the CDC Web page under Fellowships, and in the Career Development Center library.
Deadlines: September 22, Marshall, Mitchell, and Rhodes; September 24, Fulbright and DAAD; October 25, Luce Scholars Program.
Students interested in these and other major national awards (including Ford Foundation Minority Scholarships, Howard Hughes, and National Science Foundation), some of which are also open to permanent residents and non-U.S. citizens, should come to an informational meeting Monday, September 13, at 4 pm in the Career Development Center's workshop room.
For further information, contact Naledi Saul, x2080 (DAAD, Fulbright, Luce, Marshall, Mitchell, Rhodes, Rotary); for all other fellowships and scholarships, contact Fellowship Coordinator Hilary Shaw, x2080.
Student Observers at Faculty Meetings In accordance with legislation adopted by the faculty and at the direction of the president, twenty places are reserved for student observers to attend, without voice or vote, the regular open faculty meetings of the College. Of the twenty places, six are held for officers of the Student Government Association and staff of the Mount Holyoke News. If representatives of any student group wish to make brief remarks at the beginning of any meeting of the faculty, they must notify Associate Dean of Faculty Sally Sutherland a week in advance of the meeting, specifying who will be speaking and the general topic to be addressed. Faculty meetings for the 1999 - 2000 year will be held September 15, October 6, November 3, December 8, February 2, March 1, April 5, and May 3. Meetings are held on Wednesdays at 4 pm in Hooker Auditorium.
Community Service Board Members Wanted The Community Service Volunteer Program is accepting applications for positions on the 1999 - 2000 Community Service Board. The board needs leaders who will make their position on the board a priority commitment. If you are interested in applying, contact Sister Anita Magovern, x2787 or Li-Ling Waller, x2045.
