Professor of Latin American and
Caribbean Studies Roberto Marquez is now attending White House
meetings.
White House Happenings Since September 15, Roberto Marquez, William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Latin American and Caribbean Studies, has been attending White House briefings concerning the Afro Latino community. The series, which ends Friday, September 17, is a general session hosted by the White House's Office of Public Liaison. Attending the briefings, which are dialogues, are senior White House and administration officials representing a number of departments, including the White House's race initiative, the Small Business Administration, US AID, and the Vice President's Economic Development and Community Empowerment Office. The president is also expected to attend. Administration officials will also use the occasion to highlight their achievements and accomplishments. Marquez, an editor, essayist, literary critic, and cultural historian, is attending briefings on civil rights, economic development and community empowerment, education, women and children's issues, and international issues.
