Roughing It The new Rough Guide to New England singles out the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum for high praise. The popular travel guidebook notes: "South Hadley is a worthwhile destination in its own right, mainly due to the presence of the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum, which has an impressive permanent collection of Asian, Egyptian, and Mediterranean paintings, drawings, and sculpture, as well as mounting regular high-quality special exhibitions. The Museum has just recently acquired a head of Faustina the Elder, a marble Roman sculpture of the second-century Empress Faustina, whose likeness was reproduced on coins and statues of the period and whose elaborate braided hairstyle is a feat of both the art of sculpting and hairdressing."
