Mathematiques Sur la Route Mark Peterson, professor of physics and mathematics, just returned from a workshop at L'Ecole de Physique in Les Houches, France, titled "Dynamics and Morphogenesis of Branching Structures." His contribution was "Mathematical Meristems: the Singularities of Laplacian Growth."

Van Handle Elected President Donna C. Van Handle, lecturer in German studies, was recently elected president-elect of the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG). Van Handle will assume her duties as vice president of the organization January 1, 2000 and will serve as president from January 1, 2002 to December 31, 2003. The AATG, which has more than 6,500 members in the United States and abroad, is the professional association for teachers of German at all levels of instruction and for all those interested in the teaching of German. The mission of the AATG is based on the belief that bringing the language, literature, and cultures of the German-speaking world to Americans is a vital humanistic endeavor which serves an essential national interest. Van Handle '74 has been teaching German at the College since 1980.

MHC Lab Gets Great Results The Pattie J. Groves Health Center laboratory has met all criteria for accreditation by the Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA). Accreditation is given only to laboratories that apply rigid standards of quality in day-to-day operations, demonstrate continued accuracy in the performance of proficiency testing, and pass a rigorous on-site laboratory survey. Our lab has earned COLA accreditation as a result of a long-term commitment to provide quality service. The Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation is a nationally recognized clinical laboratory accreditation organization which accredits laboratories throughout the United States and its territories. COLA is approved by the federal government and is sponsored by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Society of Internal Medicine, the American Medical Association, and the College of American Pathologists.
