Meg
Mallon Wins Successful 2004
U.S. Women's Open at Mount Holyoke
The 2004 U.S. Women's
Open at the Orchards Golf Club on the College campus, the world's
most prestigious women's golf championship, is history, with a
victory by LPGA tour veteran Meg Mallon--her 2nd Open title in
13 years.
And it is history
in a bigger sense, too, with a remarkably successful presentation
that drew record crowds, featured gorgeous weather (if you're
not counting Thursday's thunderstorms, that is) and showcased
one of America's truly premier golf courses--an integral part
of one of the country's most beautiful campuses. David Fay, executive
director of the U.S. golf association, told the Daily Hampshire
Gazette, "There is a theme of this college--'Uncommon
women.' This is a week of seeing uncommon women, uncommonly great
athletes. It's just had a nice feel to it. It's resonated."
The Open at Mount
Holyoke is one that will be long remembered in golfing circles
and by all those who attended this historic showcase event at
the College. You can continue to relive the Women's Open at Mount
