Best College Courses

Orchards GolfGolf Digest ranked the Orchards Golf Club on Mount Holyoke’s campus the second-best college course in the country, behind Oklahoma State’s Karsten Creek course. The 6,473-yard, par-71 course, designed by famed architect Donald J. Ross, was the site of the 2004 U.S. Women’s Open Championship.

The course was built in 1922 by Holyoke industrialist Joseph Skinner for his daughter, and the College bought the course in 1941 for $25,000.

Golf Digest used criteria including shot values, design variety, and ambience to evaluate the courses.

Mount Holyoke was also ranked in the top 25 schools for golf by Golf Digest in the “Academics First” category, which most heavily weights each school’s academics, followed by golf performance, climate, coaches, and facilities.
