Mount Holyoke's
environmental studies graduating seniors, in collaboration
with
the Center
for the Environment, will host the first annual
Roots of Community Festival: Environment, Equality, and Economy
on Arbor Day, Friday, April 28, from 3 to 7 pm on Skinner
Green.
The festival will bring the Five College community together
with local businesses and organizations working towards sustainability.
The gathering will be a relaxed, enjoyable way to recognize
the value of community and the significance of interaction
and to
strengthen
the roots of sustainability within the Pioneer Valley.
Everyone
is invited to join for an afternoon of community exhibits, music
and entertainment, local sustainable businesses and community
organizations, outdoor games, a “Green Parade” put
on by the Environmental Action Coalition, and a May Pageant.
Participating
local businesses and organizations include Nuestras Raices, Living
Roots, Sirius Community, Red Fire Farm, ARISE for
Social Justice, Pedal People, Tribal Scribal, Pioneer Valley
Planning Commission, Gardens of Delight, Environmental Action Coalition,
CAUSE, and the Mount Holyoke Botanic Garden.
Music will be performed
by local artists including the Five College West African Drumming
Ensemble and Jessica Ream.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information
