Five College Program in Culture, Health and Science

Clinical and Research Internships

Increasingly, medical schools expect candidates’ applications to reflect both clinical and research experience. Mount Holyoke students often get their clinical experience during three-week January Term internships in hospitals and private practices across the country, while research experience is usually gained through summer internships at a university, hospital, or research center.

The Career Development Center places about 100 students a year in health and science internships. In addition, chemistry professor Sheila Browne, recipient of the National Science Foundation’s Presidential Award for Mentoring, has created an extensive Web site on finding a science internships.

MHC students have completed internships at some of the nation’s most prestigious universities and medical centers, including:

  • Massachusetts General Hospital
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • Cold Spring Harbor
  • Dana Farber Cancer Institute
  • Harvard Medical School
  • Harvard School of Public Health
  • Princeton University, Plasma Physics Laboratory
  • Rockefeller University
  • National Institutes of Health
