FROM PUNK TO POP: ECLECTIC BAND SUGAR RAY TO PERFORM AT MOUNT HOLYOKE COLLEGE APRIL 30

Two thousand tickets are being released to the general public

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Music fans with an appetite for pop, punk, hip-hop, reggae, new wave, rock 'n' roll, R and B, or any combination of these styles, should find music that satisfies them at the upcoming Mount Holyoke College concert featuring Sugar Ray. The eclectic Southern California-based band, which has toured the world; appeared on TV programs such as The Late Show with David Letterman, The Rosie O'Donnell Show, and Late Night with Conan O'Brien; and been featured in magazines that include Rolling Stone, Spin, Cosmopolitan, and People, will perform in the College's Kendall Fieldhouse Tuesday, April 30, at 8 PM (doors open at 7 PM). The band Simple Plan will open the show.

Known for such smashes as "Fly," "Every Morning," and "Someday," and new tracks such as "When It's Over" and "Answer the Phone," Sugar Ray is renowned for varied musical styles. The group's songs are written by its members: bassist Murphy Karges, guitarist Rodney Sheppard, singer Mark McGrath, drummer Stan Frazier, and Craig "DJ Homicide" Bullock on turntables, as they have been since the band's 1995 debut album, Lemonade and Brownies. The group¯s 1997 RIAA double platinum-certified album "Floored" sold two million copies and generated the Caribbean-laced hit "Fly," and its 1999 album 14:59 went triple platinum. After doing the Christmas radio-festival circuit in December, Sugar Ray embarked in mid-February on a United States tour that primarily comprises college dates. Sugar Ray is touring in support of its fourth album by the same name, which was released in June 2001 and spawned the hit single "When It's Over."

Tickets for college students with valid ID are available at select outlets and are specially priced at $15. Tickets for the general public are $20. Both general public and college student tickets are on sale now at the following locations: Blanchard Campus Center information desk, Mount Holyoke College; Tix Unlimited, UMass, Amherst; B-Side Records, Northampton; and For The Record, Amherst.
