IIF Grant Awards

MCCL reviews proposals once each fall and spring to distribute the annual funds sponsored by the Office of the President and the Dean of the College.

IIF grants awarded in 2006-2007:

UMMA Muslim Conference – Award $1,500 – Senia Bachi Abderahman

Familia - Documentary by Lillian Jimenez – Award $1,100 – Kimberly Colon

MHACASA - African Caribbean Day – Award $250 – Caroline Wameru

Writing Workshop on Being Latin/A/American – Award $300 – Rosario deSwanson

Multifaith Council Trip – Award $1100 – Leslie Fraser

MHC Garden Society - 4 workshops – Award $775 – Marguerite Hutcheson

Understanding Labels -Experiencing Diversity – Award $3,068 – Donna Van Handle

Students of Color Leadership Conference – Award $1,700 – Tanya Williams

Play- Meray Pita-Ji, Mein – Award $500 – Arianna Chadwick-Saund

AASIA - Archival History – Award $350 – Rona Yee

Wheelchair Campaign – Award $330 – Stephanie Argus

IIF grants awarded in 2006-2007:

For its late-fall, 2006 round of funding from the Inclusiveness Initiatives Fund the MCCL received 19 proposals for a total of $44,598. The requests were for projects that will take place in Spring, 2007 (or in one case in Fall, 2007). It was able to fund 16 of them for a total of $17,220.

Making Class Visible – Award $800 – Debbora Battaglia, Anthropology
J-Term course drawing on literature from visual anthropology, cultural studies, and film studies; will include a production component oriented toward an interview-based video and a coordinated publicity campaign

The Yuval Ron Ensemble – Award $1500 – Madeeha Channah '08
The Yuval Ron Ensemble: a night of multi-cultural and multi-faith song, story and dance with a vision of alleviating social, religious and cultural misunderstanding

Discovering Faith – Award $570 – Madeeha Channah '08
Discovering Faith –fostering a deeper understanding of the services and rituals performed by different faith traditions, by visiting sacred places of worship for each faith tradition

African Caribbean Day – Award $1000 – Solange Cox '08
One time booster support of annual cultural heritage month by MHACASA

Hosting Dorothy Allison - Award $1500 – Simone Weil Davis, English
Support of visit to the Five Colleges from author Dorothy Allison and visit to Simone Weil Davis' spring 2007 course, which will be populated with a combination of incarcerated women and Five College students, “Inside-Out in Hampden County: Crisis and Transcendence”

Women’s Environmental Leadership: Promoting Diversity in the Environmental Professions – Award $2350 – Giovannia DiChiro, Earth and Environment
Panel showcases the rise of a new generation of environmental leadership characterized by diversity, innovation, collaboration, and effective communications in identifying and solving environmental problems

Learning from Within – Award $300 – Amelia Ender, Leslie Fraser, Eliot House
An introduction to contemplative writing and movement to awaken awareness of self and others

Mount Holyoke Queer Students and Alumnae Conference – Award $1,000 – Chenaimwoyo Gondo
Conference to bring together current MHC students, alumnae, and five college students in a day of networking, education, empowerment and entertainment

SuDance – Award $1500 – Natasha Hunter '07
A socially conscious dance concert & collaborative community event to call attention to the present attrocities in Sudan and the related  deeply rooted issues of racism, classism, and sexism in our world

Robin Roberts Book Tour – Award $1000 – Tiffany Quash, Physical Education
Fund to bring Robin Roberts to campus as part of the “As Women of Color We Can: Be Healthy, Be Strong, Be One

The Global and the Intimate: Gender Studies in the Present Crisis of Citizenship – Award $2000 – Mary Renda
Keynote event and keynote lecture (Angela Davis) and conversations with students in conjunction with conference on gender studies and citizenship.

3 Day Workshop Series for ALANA first year students interested in the Sciences – Award $1000 – Lucy Sanchez '07

Workshop with Young Jean Lee – Award $800 – Sophie Skiles, Theatre Arts
Weekend workshop with Young Jean Lee, Asian American playwright and director.

Exploratory Discussions about Combining ISOC and Passages Orientation Boards – Award $600 – Donna Van Handle, Global Initiatives

UMMA Conference, March 31, Myra Kaiser ‘09 - $1,900
Four prominent Muslim scholars and activists brought to campus for an all-day conference.

Sisters of Hinduism Reaching Inwards, Puja Deverakonda ’07 - $1,200
Four workshops over the course of a weekend conference on MahaYoga, with keynote speaker, and amazing Indian food. Participants from all over the Northeast. Friday, April 20 - Sunday, April 22.
