The Legacy of Diversity Endowed Fund
The Legacy of Diversity initiative not only honors ALANA alumnae of the past but also provides valuable support for future generations of ALANA students. Of the $1.5 million raised during the previous campaign, $110,000 was designated for the Legacy of Diversity Endowed Fund, which helps fund student scholarships and defray costs associated with travel abroad and internships for ALANA students.

Thanks to the Legacy of Diversity Endowed Fund, Maureen Yang '07 (above right), a biology major from Northbrook, Illinois, spent the summer of 2006 in Tanzania. During half of her internship, she shadowed doctors and observed surgeries at Mount Meru Regional Hospital. The other half was spent in the ARV (AIDS retroviral) Division at Tanzania Pharmaceutical Industries, There, Yang learned how the ARV drug is produced and participated in quality control testing. "The internship was such a transforming experience. Without the travel money provided by the Legacy of Diversity Endowed Fund, it would not have been possible for me," said Yang.
