4:30 pm - 6:30 pm *TABOO*: Raised by Gay Parents - How is it different?
The most common question folks with LGBT parents get asked is: "what is your sexual orientation?" The second most common question is: "is it really hard for you?" What seldom happens, is open dialog that allows individuals to share their real truths about living in families that are considered "non-traditional". What seldom happens is a chance to exchange openly about the positive and negative impacts on the individual lives of children of gay parents. Pressures to type-cast and stereotype these families predominate, so the conversations are often very loaded with bias. Take a chance to share, listen, and learn at a deeper level about the complexities of families with LGBT members. Everyone is welcome!
Facilitators: Aime DeGrenier (LITS), Emily McGranachan '12, and others.

7:00 pm-8:30 pm *TABOO*: Leave it at the door!
How important is it when joining a team, (or an organization, a neighborhood, a new family, an office, etc.)  to be able to bring all of our "identities" out into the open.  Is it selfish to ask teammates or classmates to accept us for all of who we are?  Does it weaken or strengthen a team or an organization to address the complexities of personal identity differences e.g. sexuality, political affiliations, religion, race, gender?   Should historical bias, church rules, league protocols, supervisors or coaches determine what parts of ourselves we bring "in the door"?  Is Mount Holyoke a trend setter for acceptance and support of difference?
Facilitators: Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Dean of Students Division
