Second* Saturday
Dear New Mount Holyoke Student,
On Saturday, September 20, 2008—the third Saturday of the month but the SECOND Saturday of your fall term—you are invited to take part in an exciting program for new students.
For about six hours, small groups of new students—first-years, Frances Perkins students, transfers, and international students— are invited to enjoy a wide variety of recreational and community-service activities, most of them at some distance from campus. Led by enthusiastic volunteers—faculty, staff, upper-class students, or local Mount Holyoke alumnae—each project is designed to introduce you to some of the rich resources and opportunities available to you in our surrounding towns and neighborhoods, and to encourage your connection to your new community. With the exception of a very few projects, there is no cost to you; transportation and lunch are provided. Second* Saturday has been a huge success and your work will be greatly appreciated by both the College and the organization that you will be volunteering for. Please take some time to review the project descriptions and after reading the descriptions of the many Second* Saturday projects we ask you to select five activities that especially interest you. All projects have a limited number of spaces, but we’ll try hard to honor your preferences when assigning you to a group.
More than 400 new students and project leaders took part in Second* Saturday last year—an unqualified success!! We hope very much that you will see the value in this experience and want to participate. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
The Second* Saturday Committee
