Violence Against Women Prevention Committee (VAW)
This committee was created in 2005 when Mount Holyoke College was awarded a two year Department of Justice Violence Against Women grant with the 5 College Sexual Assault Intervention a Prevention Committee(SAPIC) Consortium The focus of this grant included:
- First Year Orientation Programming
- Residential Life Staff Training
- Educational Campaigns (sexual assault, stalking, intimate partner violence)
- Creation of VAW(Violence Against Women Prevention Committee)
VAW consists of representatives from Public Safety, Health Services, Counseling Service, Dean of Students Office, Alcohol and Drug Awareness Project, and Residence Life who meet monthly to coordinate services and educational programming.
This committee has done work in the following areas:
- Identifying campus resources and protocols currently in place and creating the Sexual Assault Resource Guide
- Strengthening relationships with local community resources to insure the best services for our students
- Provided sexual violence prevention education and training staff and students
- Creating a new campus Sexual Misconduct Policy, with specific grievance procedures.
