Daily Logs September 2007

Below is a listing of all incidents and accidents reported to the Mount Holyoke College Department of Public Safety. Each listing includes the date and time of the report, a description of the incident or accident which includes the location of the event, and a case number and case status. These are provided for the education of the community, as well as to satisfy the requirements of the Federal Right to Know law. Please feel free to call Public Safety at x2304 (or (413) 538-2304) if you have any questions about incidents occurring on campus.
 
 
NOTE: This log reflects only incidents reported to Public Safety that occurred on the Mount Holyoke College campus. Incidents involving our students off campus are reflected in the logs of the investigating department.

September 23 and September 29:

See late entry for September 26 below.

On September 30 at 1:22am officers received a report of a male who was claiming to be a police officer and requesting ID's of students and asking if they were attending a party in the Rockefellers. The male was found later and was identified as a stripper who was here for an event. He was trespassed from campus (Incident #07-264-OF). Case Closed.

On September 29 at 10:20pm a student reported her bicycle was stolen from outside North Rockefeller Hall between 9:30 and 10:15pm. The bicycle was located at Dickinson Hall the next day (Incident #07-263-OF). Case Closed.

On September 29 at 2:24pm a student reported her bicycle was stolen since September 22 from in front of Prospect Hall (Incident #07-262-OF). Case Open.

On September 28 at 1:13pm officers noticed college staff repairing a lamp post at the Equestrian Center that appeared to have been struck by a vehicle (Incident #07-261-OF). Case Open.

On September 28 at 9:20am an employee reported the card reader outside South Rockefeller Hall was found damaged on 09/26. The reader was replaced at that time (Incident #07-260-OF). Case Open.

On September 26 at 4:52pm officers responded to the Equestrian Center for a report of a rider who fell from a horse. She was evaluated and was transported to the Health Center (Incident #07-265-OF).

On September 24 at 8:45am an employee reported that someone broke into the outer door into a vestibule of the Greenhouse. No access was gained into the building itself (Incident #07-259-OF). Case Open.

On September 23 at 6:39am officers received a complaint of a male on the patio of Blanchard Hall who was not waking up. Officers located the male who claimed he was on campus for a party and fell asleep. When officers checked his background, an outstanding default warrant was located and he was arrested. Arrested was: (Incident #07-12-AC).

On September 23 at 12:26am a student reported seeing a male going through her purse at an event at Blanchard Hall. Officers located a male that fit the description, and was positively identified by the reporting party. While the man was being questioned, a second male approached officers became increasingly belligerent when officers attempted to obtain identification, and ultimately was arrested for Breach of the Peace. The first male was trespassed and charges are being filed in court against him for the attempted theft. Arrested was: (Incident #07-258-OF, 07-11-AR):

On September 23 at 2:56am officers and the EMTs responded to Ham Hall to assist a student who was not feeling well. She was assessed and declined further medical attention (Incident #07-257-OF).

September 16 and September 22:

On September 22 at 11:40pmofficers and the EMTs responded to Mead Hall for a report of an intoxicated student. The student was located and was transported to the hospital by ambulance (Incident #07-256-OF).

On September 22 at 3:00am officers responded to 1837 Hall to assist a student who was not feeling well. She originally planned on seeking her own transportation for medical treatment, but an ambulance was summoned to transport her later in the morning (Incident #07-255-OF).

On September 21 at 5:01pm an employee in Blanchard reported a platter and tea set were stolen from Blanchard Hall overnight (Incident #07-254-OF). Case Open.

On September 20 at 2:11pm student reported that her bicycle was stolen from the bike room in MacGregor Hall some time since May (Incident #07-253-OF). Case Open.

On September 19 at 4:17pm officers responded the Library for a fire in the reading area from electrical wire malfunction (Incident #07-252-OF).

On September 19 at 1:33pm an employee reported that he struck another vehicle with a college vehicle, causing a minor damage to his vehicle (Incident #07-22-AC).

On September 19 at 6:16am officers responded to Torrey Hall for a report of a student receiving harassing emails. Options were provided to the student (Incident #07-251-OF). Case Open

On September 19 at 2:09am officers responded to MacGregor Hall for a student not feeling well. She was assessed and was transported to the hospital by ambulance (Incident #07-250-OF).

On September 17 at 2:41pm a student reported that her vehicle's trunk was dented while parked on campus on September 13 between 10:30am and 4:30pm (Incident #07-21-AC).

On September 17 at 8:35pm a student in 1837 Hall reported having difficulty with another student in her residence hall (Incident #07-249-OF). Referred to Residential Life.

On September 17 at 4:15pm officers responded to the Equestrian Center to assist two riders who fell from horses. One student was transported to the hospital by ambulance; the other student declined further medical attention (Incident #07-248-OF).

On September 17 at 9:39am a student reported receiving annoying but non-threatening messages from someone via her Facebook account (Incident #07-247-OF). Case Open.

On September 16 at 2:36pm officers responded to the Library for a report of a student who was not feeling well. She was assessed and was transported to the hospital by ambulance (Incident #07-246-OF).

September 9 and September 15:

On September 15 at 1:39pm a student reported that her bicycle was stolen over the past couple of days from in front of Porter Hall (Incident #07-245-OF). Case Open.

On September 14 at 10:21pm officers responded to Porter Hall for a report of underage drinking. Officers spoke with the student involved, and she agreed to dump the alcohol (Incident #07-244-OF). Case Referred to the Deans.

On September 13 at 9:24am a student reported receiving annoying text messages from an acquaintance. Officers explained options available to her (Incident #07-243-OF). Case Open.

On September 12 at 2:08pm an employee reported finding two small holes in a window of Shattuck Hall. Officers checked the holes and believe they were drilled into the window from the interior (Incident #07-242-OF). Case Open.

On September 11 at 11:40pm officers did a well-being check in Pearsons Hall. The person was transported to the hospital by ambulance (Incident #07-241-OF).

On September 11 at 12:29pm officers assisted a student at Wilder Hall who had fallen and was injured. She was transported to the Health Center (Incident #07-240-OF).

On September 10 at 6:29pm a student reported that a tree limb fell on her family's car causing some damage to the vehicle parked near North Rockefeller Hall due to a storm (Incident #07-239-OF).

On September 9 at 12:02am officers responded to North Rockefeller hall to assist a student who injured her arm with scissors. She was transported to the hospital by ambulance (Incident #07-238-OF).

September 2 and September 8:

On September 8 at 9:11pm officers responded to South Rockefeller Hall to assist a student who reported she was injured by lightning when she was adjusting her blinds. She was transported to Health Center (Incident #07-237-OF).

On September 8 at 7:50pm a student reported that a box she had left in International Student storage in Pearsons Hall in May was stolen. The box contained clothing (Incident #07-26-OF). Case Open.

On September 8 at 7:50pm a student reported property was stolen from the trunk room in Pearsons Hall over the summer (Incident #07-236-OF). Case Open.

On September 8 at 1:01am officers and the EMTs responded to Pearsons Hall for a report of an intoxicated student. She was assessed and it was determined that medical care was not necessary (Incident #07-235-OF).

Incident #07-234-OF: Incident Number not Assigned.

On September 7 at 11:49pm officers responded to Pearsons Hall for a report of a disturbance. The hall staff reported they had already spoken with the parties involved several times and they did not quiet down. Officers spoke with the individuals who agreed to reduce the noise (Incident #07-233-OF). Referred to the Deans.

On September 4 at 2:00pm officers received a report that a video camera left in Blanchard on that day was stolen (Incident #07-232-OF). Case Open.

On September 7 at 2:04pm officers received a report from a student that she was receiving annoying telephone calls on her cell phone. After investigation, the student determined that she knew who the calls were from, and that further investigation was not necessary (Incident #07-231-OF). Case Closed.

On September 6 at 11:07pm officers responded to outside Porter Hall for a report of smoldering mulch. The Fire Department responded and extinguished the small fire, which may have been caused by improperly disposed smoking materials (Incident #07-230-OF).

On September 6 at 4:32pm a student reported that her bicycle was stolen from the area near the Mandelles and Lower Lake some time since May (Incident #07-229-OF). Case Open.

On September 6 at 4:19pm an employee turned in a small quantity of a powdery substance found in the area of Mary Lyon Hall. The substance tested positive for heroin (Incident #07-228-OF). Case Open.

On September 5 at 10:20am a vehicle driving around a corner struck the curbing causing a flat tire (Incident #07-20-AC).

On September 5 at 12:32am officers responded to a noise complaint at 24 Silver Street, an off-campus student housing unit. Officers had responded to the same location an hour earlier for the same complaint and had asked residents to reduce the noise. Those gathered were dispersed while officers were on scene (Incident #07-227-OF). Case Referred to the Deans.

Incident #07-226-OF: Case Number Not Assigned.

On September 4 at 3:57pm a student reported that the walls of her room in Abbey Hall were vandalized with magic marker. During the investigation, the responsible party was identified, and officers are investigating a link between this case and 07-224-OF below. Facilities Management staff were able to remove the markings from the student's walls.(Incident #07-225-OF). A referral to the Deans regarding the incident will be made. Case Closed.

Incident #07-232-OF: Initial contact was made by a party reporting a theft. A statement was completed on September 7; see incident above.

On September 4 at 11:02am several students in Abbey Hall reported their shower caddies were stolen from the restroom on the third floor. Additionally, graffiti was written on a sign in a hallway on the same floor. Later that day, the items stolen were returned and follow-up is continuing into the theft (Incident #07-224-OF). Case Closed.

Incident #07-223-OF: Case Number Not Assigned.

On September 3 at 3:01pm a student reported cash was missing from her wallet which was in her room in North Rockefeller Hall overnight (Incident #07-222-OF). Case Open.

On September 2 at 12:21pm officers responded to Pearsons Hall to assist a student who was not feeling well. She was evaluated and declined further medical treatment (Incident #07-221-OF).

On September 2 at 8:45am officers responded to Mead Hall to evaluate a guest who was not feeling well. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance (Incident #07-220-OF).
