Daily Logs October 2007

Below is a listing of all incidents and accidents reported to the Mount Holyoke College Department of Public Safety. Each listing includes the date and time of the report, a description of the incident or accident which includes the location of the event, and a case number and case status. These are provided for the education of the community, as well as to satisfy the requirements of the Federal Right to Know law. Please feel free to call Public Safety at x2304 (or (413) 538-2304) if you have any questions about incidents occurring on campus.
 
 
NOTE: This log reflects only incidents reported to Public Safety that occurred on the Mount Holyoke College campus. Incidents involving our students off campus are reflected in the logs of the investigating department.

October 21 and October 27:

On October 27 at 9:39pm officers responded to Kendall Hall to assist a student who was injured. She was transported to the hospital by ambulance (Incident #07-325-OF).

On October 27 at 5:08pm a student reported she was threatened by the guest of another student after approaching him about the escort policy for guests. The male guest and his host were interviewed and he denied threatening the student (Incident #07-324-OF). Referred to the Deans.

On October 27 at 3:14am officers received a report of a suspicious person outside Safford Hall. Officers identified the individual who reported he was staying with a student who is out of town. Since the student was not on campus, he was asked to leave campus (Incident #07-323-OF). Case Closed

On October 26 at 10:16pm officers checked on a town resident and assisted her in getting home (Incident #07-322-OF).

On October 26 at 5:38pm officers responded to the Morgan Street lot to assist an athlete who was injured. She was transported to the Health Center (Incident #07-321-OF).

On October 26 at 2:14pm a student reported her vehicle was broken into while it was parked in the Gorse parking lot. The student reported her GPS unit and iPod transmitter were stolen (Incident #07-320-OF). Case Open.

On October 25 at 9:18pm officers and the EMTs responded to Kendall Hall to assist a student who was injured. She was transported to the hospital by ambulance (Incident #07-319-OF).

On October 25 at 1:39pm officers were informed of annoying behavior by a student (Incident #07-318-OF). Case Referred to the Deans.

On October 25 at 10:20am a student reported money was stolen from her room in Abbey Hall (Incident #07-317-OF). Case Open.

On October 24 at 4:14pm a student reported her iPod was stolen from her room in Abbey Hall between 9:30pm and 10:00pm on October 23 (Incident #07-316-OF). Case Open.

On October 24 at 3:28pm officers responded to Pearsons Hall to assist a student who was not feeling well. She was assessed and transported to the Health Center (Incident #07-315-OF).

On October 24 at 3:32pm a student reported that her iPod was stolen from a room in Abbey Hall or Kendall Hall between October 18 and October 19 (Incident #07-314-OF). Case Open.

Incident #07-313-OF is a criminal report for the hit and run accident listed below as 07-26-AC. The driver of the vehicle that struck the parked car was identified and the case is continuing to be investigated. Case Open.

On October 22 at 11:54am officers responded to the area of the Skinner Green for a report of a minor motor vehicle accident. The driver reporting the incident reports that as he was backing into a space, a vehicle pulled into the space and he struck the car causing minor damage to the car that pulled into the space. The owner of the other vehicle was identified as a student, though she told the truck driver she is not. The same driver who pulled into the space as the truck was backing later attempted to back out of another parking space in front of a college vehicle that was operating in the roadway (Incident #07-311-OF). Case Referred to Deans.

On October 22 at 10:28pm officers and the EMTs responded to Pearsons Hall to assist a student who was not feeling well. She was transported to the hospital by ambulance (Incident #07-312-OF).

October 14 and October 20:

On October 20 at 3:27pm a report was received of a vehicle backing into a parking space between Porter Hall and Blanchard Hall struck a parked car. The owner of the vehicle that was backing up left without checking for damage. The owner of the parked car came to the location of the accident and noticed only a small amount of damage on the parked car (Incident #07-27-AC).

On October 20 at 12:04pm a student reported her bicycle was stolen from outside Pearsons Hall some time prior to October 18. The student called later to report she located her bicycle (Incident #07-309-OF). Case Closed.

On October 19 at 4:03pm an employee reported her vehicle was struck while it was parked in the Mary Lyon Lot during the day (Incident #07-26-AC).

Incident #07-306-OF: Late Entry. See below.

On October 19 at 12:04pm a student in Abbey Hall reported money was stolen from her wallet between October 13 and October 18 (Incident #07-307-OF). Case Open.

On October 19 at 1:16am a student reported cash had been stolen from her room in Abbey Hall. The student did report her door had been locked (Incident #07-306-OF). Case Open.

On October 18 at 3:32pm a student in Abbey Hall reported money was stolen from her wallet between October 16 and October 18 (Incident #07-308-OF). Case Open.

Incident #07-305-OF: Late Entry. See below.

On October 16 at 10:21pm officers received a report that a college vehicle struck a light pole while the operator was backing up the vehicle causing damage to the light pole (Incident #07-25-AC).

On October 16 at 4:58pm officers were asked to check on the well-being of a student. She was located and determined to be in need of no further services (Incident #07-304-OF).

On October 15 at 2:35pm a student reported her bicycle was stolen from in front of the Library since before fall break. The bicycle was not locked when it was last seen (Incident #07-303-OF). Case Open.

On October 15 at 1:43pm a student reported that her jacket was stolen from Mary Woolley Hall during an event there on October 14. She had checked the lost and found areas on campus and it was not found (Incident #07-302-OF). Case Open.

On October 15 at 7:22am an employee reported finding damage to a bench near Mary Woolley Hall. Upon inspection, it is unclear as to whether the damage was intentional or not (Incident #07-301-OF). Case Open.

(Note: some cases in next 24-48 hours were assigned out of sequential area as they were assigned once an incident had been responded to and cleared, rather than by time the incident was initially reported because of increased campus activity. For the benefit of our readers, they have been listed in order by time reported.)

On October 14 at 3:19am officers responded to Buckland Hall for a report of a student who was not feeling well. She was transported to the hospital by ambulance (Incident #07-299-OF).

On October 14 at 2:47am officers received a complaint of an odor of marijuana. They responded and found marijuana was present. Guests of the student whose room it was in were asked to leave campus (Incident #07-298-OF). Referred to Deans.

On October 14 at 2:30am an employee reported a male took a lawn chair from the area of Pearsons Hall and put in his vehicle. Officers were able to obtain enough details about the car to identify the operator who was a five college student. He was contacted and admitted to stealing the chair with a friend, and they returned the chair to campus. Both individuals were trespassed from campus (Incident #07-296-OF). Case Closed.

On October 14 at 1:17am officers responded to the area of Chapin Hall to assess a student who was reported to be intoxicated. She was assessed and was transported to the hospital by ambulance (Incident #07-291-OF).

On October 14 at 1:04am officers noticed an individual outside Mary Woolley Hall who was stumbling and appeared to have been drinking. She was assessed by the EMTs and was determined to be in need of care. She refused to go to the hospital and was placed into protective custody until her level of intoxication went down far enough to be released (Incident #07-14-AR). Case Closed.

On October 14 at 1:00am officers and the EMTs responded to Mary Woolley Hall to assess a student who was reported to be intoxicated. She was assessed and was transported to the hospital by ambulance (Incident #07-300-OF).

On October 14 at 1:00am officers on patrol noticed several individuals hanging out near Lab Theatre and the officers noticed an odor of marijuana. When they approached the individuals, they noticed a male smoking a small cigarette then passing it to a female. They admitted the cigarette was marijuana. They also had alcohol, which was confiscated. Both parties were identified and were trespassed from campus (Incident #07-288-OF). Case Closed.

On October 14 at 12:56am officers responded to Mary Woolley Hall to assess a student who was reported to be intoxicated. She was assessed and was transported to the hospital by ambulance (Incident #07-292-OF).

On October 14 at 12:26am officers responded to Porter Hall to assess a student who was reported to be intoxicated. She was assessed and declined ambulance transportation (Incident #07-297-OF). Referred to Deans.

On October 14 at 12:21am officers and the EMTs responded to Blanchard Hall to assess a student who was reported to be intoxicated. She was assessed and declined further medical attention (Incident #07-294-OF). Referred to the Deans.

On October 14 at 12:17am officers and the EMTs responded to Blanchard Hall to assess a student who was reported to be intoxicated. She was assessed and was transported to the hospital by ambulance (Incident #07-290-OF).

On October 14 at 12:15am officers responded to Mead Hall to assess a student who was reported to be intoxicated. She declined further medical treatment (Incident #07-295-OF). Referred to Deans.

October 7 and October 13:

On October 13 at 11:51pm officers and the EMTs responded to Blanchard Hall to assess a student who was reported to be intoxicated. She was assessed and was transported to the hospital by ambulance (Incident #07-287-OF).

On October 13 at 11:50pm officers and the EMTs responded to Mary Woolley Hall to assess a student who was reported to be intoxicated. She was assessed and was transported to the hospital by ambulance (Incident #07-289-OF).

On October 13 at 11:30pm officers checking the area of Mary Woolley found two individuals drinking from a bottle. They were identified as employees of a contractor hired to assist with the evening's events. They were relieved of duty and left campus (Incident #07-286-OF). Case Closed.

On October 13 at 11:21pm officers responded to Blanchard Hall to assess a student who was reported to be intoxicated. She was assessed and was determined to be in need of no further medical attention (Incident #07-293-OF).

On October 13 at 9:36am a student approached an officer patrolling in the Gorse Parking Lot to advise him that her radio had been stolen from her car which was parked in that lot. There was no obvious sign of a break into the vehicle, but the driver's side window was found to be down. Nothing else was stolen from the vehicle (Incident #07-285-OF). Case Open.

On October 12 at 10:23pm officers received a complaint of an odor of marijuana at Buckland Hall. Officers knocked on the room, and the resident and the resident reported she had been smoking marijuana (Incident #07-284-OF). Case Referred to the Deans.

On October 12 at 9:02am officers responded to Blanchard Hall to assist an employee who was injured. She was transported to the Heath Center (Incident #07-283-OF).

On October 12 at 12:54am officers responded to Mead Hall for a report of a loud argument between a student and her guest. The calling party reported it sounded as if one of the parties had struck the other party. When officers arrived, they separated the two parties and placed the male guest under arrest for domestic assault and battery (Incident #07-13-AR):

On October 11 at 3:51pm a student reported a motor vehicle accident that had occurred on September 19 at 10:30pm outside Torrey Hall. In that accident a vehicle backed into a parked vehicle in the circle in front of the building (Incident #07-24-AC).

On October 11 at 6:20am officers responded to Dickinson Hall as a result of a fire alarm sounding in the building. The fire department was also notified. Officers found the area causing the alarm was the boiler room where carbon monoxide and heat detectors had been activated and a pipe to the building's boiler was found to have disconnected itself. The fire department did a search of the building to be sure no one remained in the building. The residents were relocated while the building was ventilated and repairs were made to the boiler. Once these were completed, the residents were allowed to return (Incident #07-282-OF).

On October 10 at 5:04pm officers received a report of ongoing annoying behavior by the acquaintance of a student. The student was given options available to her (Incident #07-310-OF). Case Open.

On October 10 at 3:07pm an employee informed the department that a student reported to him that inappropriate comments were made to her by a known person (Incident #07-281-OF). Case Open.

Incident #07-280-OF: Late entry; see below.

On October 8 at 10:37pm officers responded to North Rockefeller Hall to assist a student who had fainted. She had recovered and refused further medical assistance (Incident #07-279-OF). Case Open.

On October 8 at 12:15pm an employee reported a student was uncivil toward her (Incident #07-278-OF). Referred to Deans.

On October 8 at 11:35am officers did a well-being check in Mead Hall. The person was located and information passed to the appropriate parties (Incident #07-277-OF).

September 30 and October 6:

On October 5 at 3:01pm officers received a report of an argument between a student and her guest in MacGregor Hall (Incident #07-280-OF). Case Open.

On October 5 at 12:19am officers responded to MacGregor Hall to assist an individual who was having a seizure. He was transported to the hospital (Incident #07-276-OF).

Incident #07-275-OF: Incident Number not Assigned.

On October 5 at 9:21am officers responded to Mandelle Parking Lot for a suspicious person in the woods. He was trespassed from campus (Incident #07-274-OF). Case Closed

On October 3 at 10:32pm officers responded to MacGregor Hall for a report of a male who had fallen and was having seizures during a fight with a student. An ambulance was notified and he was transported to the hospital (Incident #07-273-OF). Officers are continuing to investigate the incident.

On October 3 at 7:22pm officers responded to North Rockefeller Hall to assist a student who had fainted. She had recovered, and was transported to the Health Center (Incident #07-272-OF). Case Open.

On October 3 at 4:05pm a student reported a past sexual assault that had occurred on campus last February (Incident #07-271-OF). Case Under Investigation.

On October 3 at 3:48pm a student reported her wallet and keys were stolen from her book bag during dinner on October 2 at Wilder Hall. The wallet was found between North Rockefeller and Skinner Hall on October 3, but her one card and keys were not with the wallet, and her card was used in a vending machine on campus on October 2 (Incident #07-270-OF). Case Open.

On October 3 at 2:42pm a student reported her bicycle was stolen between 10:00am and 3:00pm from a bicycle rack outside Blanchard Hall. The bicycle was not locked at the time (Incident #07-269-OF). Case Open.

On October 3 at 2:44pm a student reported her bicycle was stolen from the bicycle rack in front of Porter Hall. It was unlocked when it was last seen at 1:15pm. Officers located the bicycle at Lab Theatre and it was returned to its owner (Incident #07-268-OF). Case Closed.

On October 3 at 8:51am officers responded to the Equestrian Center to assist a rider who had fallen from a horse. She was transported to the Health Center (Incident #07-267-OF).

On October 1 at 1:49am officers responded to the first floor of Abbey Hall for a complaint of an odor of marijuana. The student in the room from which the odor appeared to be emanating admitted she and a friend were smoking marijuana (Incident #07-266-OF). Case Referred to the Deans.

On September 29 at 1:19am officers received a report of an intoxicated student at South Mandelle Hall. She was assessed and determined to need no further care (Incident #07-305-OF).
