Hybrid Vehicles

Mount Holyoke has used hybrid sedans in its fleet since 2003.  We currently have two Honda Civic hybrids.  A hybrid vehicle combines a gasoline-powered engine with an electric motor to provide increased gas mileage and help lower emissions. The vehicles get a combined city and highway mileage of 47 mpg. In 2005, use of hybrid vehicles in the fleet saved 525 gallons of gasoline. This reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 10,269 lbs, the equivalent of taking one passenger car off the road for a year or 1.4 acres of trees storing carbon dioxide for a year.
