I. Environmentally Responsible Building Principles

The Environmentally Responsible Building Principles were presented to the EMS Steering Committee at their December 15th meeting. The Steering Committee endorsed the Principles and encouraged the Working Group to continue development of in-house standards.

II. Environmentally Responsible Green Building Design and Construction Guidelines

The Working Group or subgroup met numerous times over the course of December 2004 to June 2005 to develop MHC guidelines. The work began with a review of the LEED and University of Buffalo systems. The subgroup was assigned sections to develop. At various points the draft was brought back to the Working Group for comment.

The current draft was submitted to the EMS Steering Committee at their June 20, 2005 meeting. The committee recognized the work that had gone into the process and asked the Working Group to further consider how we are going to measure progress and success.

III. Residence Hall Planning

Nancy, John, Ellen and Paul are on the residence hall planning committee. A meeting was held on June 1, 2005 with the arhitect, S/L/A/M Collaborative, to which the entire Working Group was invited. In the meeting we discussed the applicability of the draft Guidelines and LEED standards. It was decided that while we will use the MHC Guidelines we will also use the LEED tracking system in the event that LEED certification is desired at a later stage of the planning process.
