Nursery and Kindergarten Programs

Gorse Child Study Center serves young children, ages 2.9 to 6, in a planned but flexible learning environment. We offer four half-day programs: three preschool groups (two in the morning and one in the afternoon) and an afternoon kindergarten. The class size is between twelve and fourteen children. We follow the academic calendar of Mount Holyoke College. The program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Children who attend Gorse Child Study Center come from South Hadley, Granby, Belchertown, Chicopee, Holyoke and other surrounding communities. No College affiliation is required for enrollment.

The center is part of the Department of Psychology and Education at Mount Holyoke College. We are located on the edge of the beautiful campus grounds and have access to the resources of the college for field trips and classroom activities, including the art museum, horse barn, greenhouse and dance studio.

Staff:
A director and associate director are responsible for administering the program and supervising the staff. All of our teachers are highly trained and experienced and have a strong commitment to the children and families of Gorse Child Study Center. Our professional staff is augmented by Mount Holyoke College students who assist in the classroom and provide individual attention and support for the children.
