Mount Holyoke College Alcohol and Drug Awareness Committee Mission Statement
Foundations In 1977, Mount Holyoke College became one of the first colleges to implement an Alcohol and Drug Awareness Project (ADAP) which provided alcohol and other drug education, intervention, and counseling to the campus community. Today, Mount Holyoke College continues to be at the forefront of comprehensive college alcohol and other drug programs that speak to women’s issues. One way the college continues to excel in this arena is through the efforts of the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Committee, which is a working group that assists ADAP in assessing and seeking solutions related to the community’s involvement with alcohol and other drug issues.
Vision • Provide leadership and awareness to develop a community-wide approach to alcohol and other drug issues that is comprehensive, gender-specific, and culturally-competent. • Support a safe, respectful, and aware community in relation to alcohol and other drugs and thereby enhance the physical, spiritual, and psychological health of all individuals.
Goals • Support the mission and goals of the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Project (ADAP) • Informs the campus with regards to policy and practices that impact the community about alcohol and other drug concerns. • Support institutional compliance with Department of Education Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act • Invite involvement from a broad-base constituency to promote institutional ownership of alcohol and other drug-related issues. • Increase campus-wide awareness of alcohol and other drug-related issues through active and passive educational programs. • Communicate to the campus community current research on women and alcohol and other drugs • Identify and assess campus needs, provide analysis and evaluation based on current data, and offer recommendations to appropriate departments. • Review vision, goals, membership, and structure every three years.
