Travel Medicine Services
If you are planning to travel abroad for study or pleasure, especially to destinations in the developing world, we encourage you to seek an appointment with the health center. If you arrange for an appointment one month or more in advance of your departure from campus, we will be able to help you accomplish the following travel preparations:

  • Physical examination, if required by your study-abroad program
  • Travel health precautions pertinent to your destination
  • Prescriptions for malaria prevention, if needed
  • Refills of prescriptions for your regular medications
  • A comprehensive list of required or recommended immunizations

Travel Immunization Services
Once you have been advised about your travel immunizations, a separate nursing visit is needed for the actual vaccination process. Please don't hesitate when you call, however, to request that both of these visits be scheduled on the same day. The following travel-related vaccination products are available here at MHC:
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Meningococcal Meningitis
  • Tetanus booster
  • Polio booster
  • Typhoid
The following are vaccines for which we see a much lower demand here at MHC, and therefore cannot stock. Students needing these vaccines are referred to the UMass Health Services Travel Health Clinic or the Baystate Medical Center Travel Vaccination Service in Springfield.
  • Yellow Fever
  • Japanese Encephalitis
  • Rabies
