Facts about MHC

One of the nation's finest liberal arts institutions, Mount Holyoke College is a highly selective, nondenominational, residential, liberal arts college for women located in South Hadley, in the Connecticut River valley in western Massachusetts—one of the most culturally and academically vibrant regions of the country.

Founded in 1837 by chemist and revolutionary educator Mary Lyon, Mount Holyoke is the nation's oldest continuing institution of higher learning for women. It was the first of the Seven Sisters—the female equivalent of the formerly all-male Ivy League.

Today, Mount Holyoke is recognized worldwide for its rigorous and innovative academic program, its global community, its legacy of women leaders, and its commitment to connecting the work of the academy to the concerns of the world.
