Compensatory
Time Off and New Jobs
What is the College's Compensatory Time Off Policy
For non-exempt positions, Department Heads or Supervisors must
authorize any extra hours worked beyond the regularly scheduled
and budgeted hours. If a non-exempt employee works additional hours
in any work week, but does not work over 40 hours, the additional
hours must be taken off as compensatory time within the same one
or two-week pay period, depending if the employee is paid on a weekly
or bi-weekly schedule.
If it is not possible to take the compensatory time off within
the same pay period it is earned, the individual should be paid
for the additional hours worked within the same pay period. Such
hours should be added to the timesheet. If an employee works over
40 hours (actual hours worked -- not including time paid but not
worked, e.g. sick, personal, or vacation time), the number of hours
over 40 should be reported on the timesheet as overtime hours to
ensure appropriate overtime wages are paid.
New Jobs
What happens when a new job is created?
When a new job is created and approved, the Department Head/Chair
or Supervisor should follow the procedure listed below:
Prepare a Job Analysis Form for Human Resources review.
Human Resources, with input from the Department Head/Chair or Supervisor,
will evaluate the job based on the major responsibilities to determine
a provisional salary grade.
After an employee is in the job for six months, Human Resources
will request that the employee update the Job Analysis Form. The
revised form will be reviewed by the Department Head/Chair or Supervisor
and submitted to Human Resources. At that point, the salary grade
will be determined.
Please note that the job evaluation process by Human Resources
requires at least two weeks.
