Chapin Auditorium is located in Mary Woolley Ha ll, on the center of the Mount Holyoke College campus. It is an acoustically beautiful, air-conditioned concert hall used both as a theater space and a multi-purpose facility.
Chapin Auditorium is the largest indoor performance facility
at Mount Holyoke College. It can accommodate an audience of approximately 1126
seated patrons, or 819 on the “Open Floor” - orchestra level (no
chairs) or a combined total of 1350 with seated balconies and open floor. Originally
built in 1916 in the Music Hall tradition, Chapin has a Proscenium stage,
(26’ deep and 29’ wide) that is three feet higher than
house floor (64’ deep and 66’wide, with no orchestra
pit). Two balconies offer some permanent seating (First Balcony: 405, Second
balcony: 132), while orchestra level (non-raked) seating is moveable(max.
589). Moderate Space in the Lobby of Mary Woolley Hall is available for Box
Office Set-up and Merchandise tabling. The stage is equipped with a theatrical
lighting inventory and a quality sound system for public address and other
miscellaneous applications (generally not sufficient for most full concert
productions, approved professional contractors are hired to provide larger
sound rigs).
