Cultural & Ethnic Organizations

Asian American Interpretive Realities (AIR)
Founded in 1999, AIR uses theater and spoken-word to illuminate a broad array of social issues relating to the Asian and Asian American communities, thus promoting political and social awareness and empowerment.
Asian American Sisters in Action (AASIA)
AASIA was formed by several Asian American students of MHC in 1992 to address and bring about awareness of issues affecting Asian Americans. AASIA has aimed to be politically active, both on and off campus. It serves as a support group and voice for Asian American women, who as a minority group, are often unheard and overlooked. AASIA also works to strengthen the bonds within the Asian American community, as well as to unite with groups for students of color and other allies against racism and social, economic injustice.
Asian Students Association (ASA)
Our mission is to celebrate Asian heritage while increasing awareness of and appreciation for people of Asian descent and their varied cultures within Mount Holyoke and in the wider community.
Association of Pan-African Unity - (APAU)
APAU, an organization for persons of African descent, plans and implements activities and programs designed to increase awareness of Africa's unique and diverse cultural heritage within the Mount Holyoke and the Five College community. APAU also serves as a support group that facilitates social activities to bring women of color together. APAU's main office is in the Betty Shabazz Cultural Center.
Bangla Club AMRA
This org works to promote friendship and interaction among its members and to expose the MHC community to the rich and beautiful Bengali culture.
Bulgarian Club
To represent the Bulgarian community on campus in various MHC events. To establish relations among Bulgarian students on campus and in the 5-College area. To serve as a resource for newcoming Bulgarian students in helping them adjust to life at MHC and in the United States in general. To promote the Bulgarian culture and spirit and to introduce the Bulgarian traditions and customs to the MHC community. Create and develop a support network among Bulgarian MHC alumnae and to connect them to current and future students.
Chinese Cultural Association (CCA)
The Chinese Cultural Association (CCA) is an inclusive organization, extending our membership to all, and seek to promote educational and cultural awareness within MHC and the surrounding communities.
FAMILIA (Formerly SYSTA)
A confidential support network that serves self-identified LGBTQ people of color in the 5-college community. FAMILIA aims to increase the visibility of LGBTQQ people of color in the 5-colleges and to increase awareness in the 5-college community about issues affecting LGBTQQ people of color by creating a space for open dialogue.
Hawai'i Club (Ka Hui 'O Hawaii)
To provide a group where those who come from, have lived in, or have ties or a personal interest in the islands and culture of the state of Hawaii can come together to celebrate, perpetuate, and share Hawaii's unique culture, traditions, and "aloha spirit." (Also see Section II of Article I of the charter.)
International Club
The International club is dedicated to bringing together and embracing all cultures from around the world, through cultural activities, international dinners, and film festivals!
Korean American Sisters Association (KASA)
The Korean-American Sisters Association (KASA) aims to increase the awareness of Korean and Korean-American issues in the Mount Holyoke and Five College Community. We are a support network as we seek to establish and define our identities as first and second generation minorities. Building strong foundations of friendship between us that go beyond classroom walls, we ultimately seek to work powerfully and efficiently in serving our community through projects including fundraising for important causes (such as the reunification of North and South Korea), promoting Asian American events, and educating others about Korean culture through music and dance.
La Unidad
La Unidad is an organization for self-identified Latinas. We are a cultural group who is also politically driven. We come from all over the country and the world. Our cultural space is at the Eliana Ortega Cultural Center on 4 Dunlap Place. Many of our activities include community service projects. Some include: Girls Inc. and the raising of funds for non profit organizations. Events we do throughout the year are: Latino Day, Latino awareness month, Valentines Semi-formal.
Liga Filipina
We seek to provide a forum where interested students can discuss issues relevent to Filipino Americans and Filipino nationals. We are members of FIND- the Filipino Intercollegiate Networking Dialogue- and participate with conferences and dialogues that FIND sponsors as well as those of other SE Asian/ Pacific Islander organizations. We seek to spread awareness of Filipino culture on campus and in the 5-college area.
MEChA-Movimiento Estudiantial Chicano de Aztlan
To provide a forum for Chicana/o activism in the political sphere encompassing, but not limmited to, social, cultural, and educational issues. MEChA is committed to seek an end to the exploitation of the Chicana/o community, to raise awareness of Chicana/o issues through self-education, and to recruit amongst the youth in order to promote self-determination.
MHACASA - Mount Holyoke African and Caribbean Student Association
MHACASA was formed in January 1993 out of the need for an organization that puts issues of Africa and the Caribbean at the top of the agenda. MHACASA is an organization in which African and Caribbean students can come together and educate one another and the Mount Holyoke community about the place from which they come. In addition the organization makes active efforts to eradicate the stereotypes created by mass media and ignorance.
Mix It Up
Mix It Up is an open organization extending our membership to all seeking to promote education and cultural awareness within MHC and its surrounding communities. We provide a place to embrace our rich multiethnic cultures and heritage and raise awareness of multiethnic issues. Mix serves as a supportive group for multicultural, multiracial, multiethnic students and transracial adoptees, and allies, where students can relate and talk about similar issues and experiences.
Native Spirit
A Cultural / Social /Political Student Organization serving the Native American Community at MHC. Group Meets at the Zowie Banteah Cultural Center at 4 Dunlap Place.
Nepali Student Organization (NEPSO)
The Nepali Student Organization is a place for all Nepali students, friends, and well-wishers to come together for a common ground of shared interests. The club seeks to promote awareness about social, economic and politico-cultural challenges in Nepal, ranging from basic education, health care and gender equality to human rights. We seek support from the international community to help change the status quo of the above-mentioned areas in Nepal.
Phenomenal Women of Color
The Frances Perkins Phenomenal Women of Color Association (PWCA) is a multicultural/multi-ethnic organization focused on celebrating various minority cultures and is dedicated to addressing and bringing awareness to the campus community, issues affecting non-traditional students who self-identify as women of color. The association aims to support FP women of color by establishing a sustainable network with faculty, alumnae, and community leaders. In addition, PWCA also works to strengthen the bonds within the Mount Holyoke and minority community at large.
Romanian Student Association
The Romanian Student Association is dedicated to promoting Eastern European culture, especially Romanian, in the Five-College area.
Russian Club
The objective of the Russian Club is to further the understanding and appreciation of Russian culture through activities including watching Russian films, preparing traditional meals, attending Five-College events, etc.
South Asian Student Association (formerly known as AWAZ)
To facilitate greater awareness and appreciation of South Asian culture and heritage through cultural showcases and public dialogue, social events and other interactive endeavors.
True Colors
Organizing and providing support, activism, outreach, and social functions for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, queer, questioning, and straight ally population at both Mount Holyoke and the greater community.
Vietnamese Student Association
VSA at Mount Holyoke College is an inclusive club dedicated to cultivating and promoting awareness of Vietnamese heritage and culture through club activities and events such as cultural shows and celebration of traditional holidays such as Tet (lunar New Year) and the Moon festival.
