- The German Club at Mount Holyoke College seeks to promote the German language and the cultures in German speaking countries, while demystifying common stereotypes. It provides a forum for discussion of issues related to German culture and provides a friendly environment to make new friends and experience a different culture. We hope to cultivate interest in the events held by the club and foster cooperation with other campus clubs. To do so, we encourage all students to participate in German Club activities and events sponsored by the German Department. Our mission is to teach the MHC community about Germany and the German culture. We were very active during the 1998-99 school year. We did a variety of different activities including a trip to NYC to see a play, selling German chocolate filled holiday calendars, a holiday party, a Fasching or Karneval celebration, attended German films, and much more.
- To give MHC students a chance to make music for the college community, and to give those students a greater understanding of the study of music.
- Grameen MHC's mission is to address potential methods in alleviating poverty. The group's goals are to introduce the Grameen Bank model to the Mount Holyoke College community, to discuss the viability of microcredit and microfinance in addressing poverty, to raise awareness of both economic and social conditions in developing countries, and to reach out to women living below the poverty line. Through fundraising initiatives, this group strives to raise awareness of the Grameen Bank model replications and social businesses.
