Justice of the Peace
We’re gathered together today to demonstrate what could be if our alma
mater,         Mount Holyoke College, were to practice the values it so readily
declares in its         mission statement and accept the proposal of social
justice.  May I ask who gives                 Mount Holyoke away?

Trustees
I, the Mount Holyoke College board of trustees, give Mount Holyoke to
this         sacred         union that will generate new challenges and important changes,
revolutionizing this campus and making it a true leader in the second
millennium

Justice of the Peace
And who is giving away social justice?

Bridal Committee
WE THE PEOPLE acknowledge that social justice cannot given away, for
it must belong to everyone.

Justice of the Peace, Exchanging of the Vows:
A marriage is the sanctified union entered into sober of mind…  It’s difficult
to stay committed and fiscally responsible, but it is important to stay
devoted.
Into to the Vows: the struggle---
Mount Holyoke
Social justice, I realize I have not always been faithful. I have worked
against people’s union campaigns, I have misclassified workers, I have paid my
workers under minimum ways, and I have ignored my own students, but  YOU,
social justice, YOU have opened my eyes- you reach the core of who I really
want to be…

Social Justice
I know, Mount Holyoke, that you have been neglecting me, social justice. You
have pushed me away, but I have remained faithful. I also know you have
concerns of my fiscal concerns but social justice is priceless.  Soon we will
unite and begin listening to the concerns of students, invest in cdfi’s, and
birth a fair labor code of conduct.

Your power attracts me, it is everywhere and I know it can be managed
differently.  I am inspired by the students, the staff, the faculty that you
attract.  It is your power that has created the power of resistance.

Justice of the Peace
Does anyone object to this union?  Speak now or forever hold your pee.

Objector
I do.

Justice of the Peace
On what grounds?

Objector
HMNnnnn… well, I just don’t feel comfortable.

Justice of the Peace
As you can see there are no grounds to reasonably object to this union…
To conclude the ceremony, let us bind this union with an agreement between
Mount Holyoke and Social Justice. Let this fair labor code of conduct be
symbolic of Social
Justice’s commitment to Mount Holyoke College and Mount Holyoke College’s
commitment to Social Justice… (pause for the signing) Let us not forget that
marriage is supported through new ideas, supportive community. It is the
responsibility of current and prospective students to ensure this marriage is
a success. By the power invested in me by the student coalition for action, I
now pronounce you partners for life.

What we’ve witnessed tonight is a union that could be if Mount Holyoke
embraced the fair labor code coalition and many other social justice efforts.
We call on current and prospective students to support this union so that it
may be long lived.
Please say “I DO” to social justice and see ushers to sign a card of support.
