2006

September 21: From the Heart of New Orleans 7:30pm-12am The Great Room. $110 raised for Common Ground!

September 28: Festival for Community Action 2006 4:00-6:30 Skinner Green. $250 raised for local educational playground in Holyoke!

October 31: African American event in Blanchard with fundraiser raffle for Darfur. $45 raised!

November 15: Spaghetti in the Betty: a Benefit Dinner for Humanitarian Work in Lebanon. 5- 7:30pm in the Betty Shabazz House. $300 raised for LebCare!

November 18: C.A.U.S.E Board goes to Not Bread Alone (Soup Kitchen)

December 1: Help mulch at the Foodbank Farm. Vans leave from Kendall parking lot at 8:30am, 9:30am, 10:30am, and 11:30am. Foodbank is an organic farm that helps supply local food pantries with fresh vegetables throughout the year. For more info, call Jeanne Friedman at x2851

December 2: Hot Chocolate Run in Northampton at 9:30am. Proceeds benefit Safe Passages (a NoHo community resource that provides support and shelter to women and children affected by domestic violence. Go to www.hotchocolaterun.com to register and return registration form outside CAUSE office: 306 Blanchard! Email sesykesa for more information.

Novovember 25-December 10: International stop gender violence 16 day campaign to end violence against women.

December 4- December 7: Gender Violence Movie Series (4 consecutive days). On the December 7th movie night between 7:30 and 9:30 in the Great Room, you are welcome to bring your organization and use a table to represent your org (email silve20m). This is an opportunity for dialogue, discussion, and a show of unity between organizations of diverse cultures, creeds, and missions.

 

2007

January: Service trips to Mexico (through Habitat) and New Orleans (through Common Ground) (1-week J-term Habitat for Humanity trip to Mexico: Spanish Immersion! Led by Anita Magovern.) (2-week J-term trip down to New Orleans with Common Ground Collective, a grassroots organization. Led by Kelly Sottile, Sara Tonneson, & Liz Guenther.)

February 2: Ice Capella: Featuring MHC's The Diversions, M&Cs, Nice Shoes, and the V8s! Proceeds go to Darfur relief! $210 raised for Save the Children!

February 7: CAUSE Fair 7:30-9:00pm in Blanchard Great Rooom

March 14: Darfur Concert in Chapin 7-9:30pm (sponsored by the International Club)

March 28: Faculty/Staff VS MHC Basketball Team/Students in Kendall 7pm

April 7: Anti-War event in Blanchard. Come and get information on the war and see what you can do to lead our country towards peace.

April 15: Rock for Darfur! Day bands on Skinner Green! Proceeds to go to Save the Children

April 13-20: Hunger Week! (M&Cs two-day fast, Hunger Banquet, Relay for Hunger on MHC campus, Speakers, and more!)

April 15 & 16: M&Cs Fast: $800 to go to hunger relief efforts

April 16: EAC Dinner in Betty

April 17: Hunger Movie in Hooker

April 19: Hunger Banquet in Betty

April 27-May 1: Tent City! On Skinner Green. Camp out for 4 nights, 5 days to raise food and money to help ARISE fight local hunger! Email kasottil@mtholyoke.edu to get involved!

November 6: Genocide Prevention and the International Community: A Fable for our Time? 7:30pm, Gamble Auditorium

November 12: Spike Lee's "When the Levees Broke" showing in Ham 7:30-9:30pm

November 15: Amnesty International Movie Screening: Black Gold
A film about trade injustice in the Ethiopian coffee industry. Free and open to the public. Refreshment will be served.

November 27: Spike Lee's "When the Levees Broke" showing in South Delles 7:30-9:30pm

Saturday, December 1: 4th Annual Mayor Higgins' Hot Chocolate Run & Walk for Safe Passages in North Hampton, MA. Presented by Safe Passage

December 3, 5pm-7pm: "Spaghetti in the Betty"- a benefit dinner and educational event in the Betty Shabazz House. $80 raised for NOLA: Keeping the Hope!

December 4: Spike Lee's "When the Levees Broke" showing in Abbey 7:30-9:30pm

December 12, 11pm: Coffee for a CAUSE - get a cup of coffee for $2 at Library Atrium to learn about and support REACH (Rape Education, Advocacy, Counseling and Healing), the family crisis center in Kanawha Valley, West Virginia.

 

2008

February 1, 8pm: Ice Cappella Jam - $470 raised for REACH in West Virginia!

February 1, 10pm-2am: Mardi Gras Party in Blanchard

February 5, 7:30-9:30pm: Spring CAUSE Fair

April 14-18: Hunger Awareness Week
April 15, 6pm: Hunger Banquet, Betty Shabazz House. An opportunity to learn about global hunger and inequity. Donations to Not Bread Alone in Amherst.
April 16, 7pm: Faculty/Staff vs. Students Basketball Game, Kendall Gymnasium.

April 19, 10am-4pm: Locks of Love Hair Drive (Chapin Auditorium)

April 19, 10am-2pm: Not Bread Alone volunteer day!

April 24 (2pm)-April 25 (9am): Tent City for Homelessness - all money raised donated to Arise for Social Justice in Springfield. In memory of Kelly Sottile '08.
