Dear Mount Holyoke Community,
First
of all, congratulations! Together we have raised over $5,000 for the
Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Thank you for your
generous donations and outpouring of support for the victims.
We would
like to especially thank those groups or organizations that have
sponsored
or plan to sponsor a fundraising effort on their own. (Three
cheers for the Outing Club, FP's, SGA, the Math Department, Newman
Association,
and the M&Cs!) And, of course, thank you to Residential
Life for sponsoring the Dorm Penny War, and congratulations
to Dickinson on its
big win!
We have ended our clothing, school
supplies and toiletries drive and are in the process of shipping
the toiletries to
Telullah
Madison Center
and the school supplies are going to Big Buddies in
Baton Rouge. We want to thank Karen Engall, director of Health Services,
for helping
to coordinate the drive. In mid-September, we held
a successful
craft fair in Blanchard with the help of the MHC Collaborates
and Purling
for a Purpose. In late September, we held a Southern
Film Festival to raise money and awareness about the relief effort.
Thank
you to all those
who
attended and donated. CAUSE has commenced its second
wave of hurricane relief efforts. Our first post-break fundraiser is
a
raffle to raise money
for severely affected Spelman University students whom
Bev Tatum,
former Dean
of
the College, brought to our attention. If you would
like to donate money towards Spelman Unversity’s scholarship
fund, please send checks made out to Hurricane Katrina
Emergency Scholarship
Fund to
9121 Blanchard Student Center. Please check our website
for updated information on our efforts. We are enjoying
working
with you on this next wave of the relief effort. Thank
you for your contributions thus far, and keep
up the good work!
Sincerely,
