Going home for Thanksgiving??
Clean out your fridge and unplug it and other appliances around your dorm room to save energy!

Go Cold Turkey Campaign
The Cold Turkey Campaign is inspired by an annual campaign at Harvard between undergraduates, faculty, and grad schools to get people to get rid of any food they have in their fridge before thanksgiving break and unplug their fridge to save energy.
According to the fire safety instructions for November Break, if students leave campus for the break they are required to unplug all appliances in their rooms.
"Disconnect all appliances including alarm clocks. NOTHING should be left in electrical outlets. Failure to do so will result in a fire safety violation."
Thus or campaign actually appears to be a regulation here at Mount Holyoke.
All this said, here's an incentive to unplug their fridges:
Want your room smelling like sour milk and mouldy carrots after November Break? We didn't think so. Please unplug your fridge and other dorm room appliances to save energy and save yourself from foul odors on your return. Additionally, your room will be inspected by facilities management during the break, and it
is a fire safety violation to leave appliances (even alarm clocks) plugged in while you are away. Unplug it!
