Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer
Overview

Google is widely acknowledged as the top Internet search engine and makes a free utility available to integrate the search process directly into Windows Internet Explorer. The Google Toolbar will not work with Netscape or on Macintosh operating systems.

Installation Intructions

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Navigate to http://toolbar.google.com.
  3. Scroll to bottom of page.
  4. Specify your language preference. Default is English.
  5. Click on Button "Get the Google Toolbar"
  6. Click on Button "I Agree to Terms of Use…"
  7. Click on Button to install (with) or (without) Advanced Features. NOTE: A disclosure statement will pop advising you that in order to access unspecified "Advanced Features", you need to enable Page Rank which tracks the URLs you access via the toolbar. The info could certainly be clearer --- and if online privacy is a concern for you, install without advanced features.
  8. Voila! - notice the toolbar at the top left corner of your browser, as shown below:

Simply type your search into the dialog box and click "Search the Web". Note that you can use the drop down arrow next to the dialog box to access previous searches.

Using Google to do site searches is often more effective than using the search engines within websites. Simply navigate to the site you want to search, type your search term, and click the "Search Site" button.

Another great feature is Google Dictionary, which provides contextual definitions for words or phrases. Simply type "define: term" into the search box and click "Search the Web".
