OVERVIEW

The Frances Perkins Scholars Association is an organization consisting of
non-traditional aged students who are committed to provide opportunities for the FP community, allowing scholars to share various experiences during their time at MHC. By preserving traditions and encouraging interaction between FPs, we hope to deepen and forge close relationships between students, as well as provide leadership and professionalism to all members of the organization.

FP HOUSE

Frances Perkins House
57A College Street
South Hadley, MA 01075
413-538-2627

The Frances Perkins House is available during the academic year for non-exclusive use by Frances Perkins Scholars and Postbaccalaureates. It is a shared resource that provides a comfortable space for study, meals, rest and relaxation. It is also available for meetings and overnight stays.
Access
  1. A key to the house may be obtained from the FP office. A refundable $5 dollar deposit is required.
  2. Male visitors are not allowed in the house between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m.
  3. FPs staying overnight may lock the front door with a chain lock after 11:00 p.m.
Supplies
The college provides light housekeeping, toilet paper, and trash can liners. Non-consumables including kitchen utensils, dishes & cups, etc. have been donated by FPs and are the property of the FP house. Consumables such as coffee, food, napkins, tinfoil, etc are the property of other people using the house.
Meetings
The house is available for meetings and other occasions by arrangement with the FP office. Contact Carolyn Dietel (cdietel) for reservations.
Staying Overnight
  1. If you plan to stay at the FP house overnight, notify Carolyn Dietel (cdietel).
  2. A per diem rate of $10 is charged for each overnight stay. Payment should be coordinated through the FP Admissions Office.
  3. Bring your own sheets and towels. Some are available in the closets of each bedroom for emergency stays (i.e. inclement weather), however we try hard to minimize the workload of the housekeeping staff.
Bring your own toiletries. The middle drawer of the cabinet in the bathroom has a supply of extra soap, shampoo, etc. You are encouraged to use what you need and contribute what you can.

PROGRAMS & BENEFITS

Emergency Loans

The Deborah Light Memorial Emergency Loan Fund was established as a memorial to former Frances Perkins Director, Deborah Light. Frances Perkins Scholars can borrow up to $250 for 3 months.
To apply for an emergency loan, contact Kay Althoff (kalthoff).

Fall Tag Sale

The FPSA supplements funds for the Emergency Loan Program by collecting clothing and other valuables left behind in the dorms during the spring and then sponsoring a Tag Sale in the fall. This is a great opportunity to contribute your talents and time to the FP community. You will meet other FPs, make new friends, challenge your organizational skills, get good stuff cheap and feel a great sense of accomplishment by supporting your sister FPs. (What else can we say to convince you to help out?)

Notebook Computers

Notebook computers are available for two-week loan periods through the FP Office. Contact Carolyn Dietel (cdietel).

Making the Connection

Join your fellow Frances Perkins Scholars and a member of the faculty or administration each month at the FP House for wine, cheese & crackers, and good conversation!

Fun and Parties!

- Holiday Party with Faculty
- Spring Party for FPs and Family
- Smigus-Dyngus Day
