Kachimushi literally means "victory bug" and translates into English as “dragonfly”. Dragonflies, or Kachimushi, designs are found on many samurai swords, armor, as well as uniforms. This is because a kachimushi always flies forward, and never retreats. The samurai respected this quality. Thus it became a symbol for the spirit of our club. The club was established in 2006 by our former captain and Mount Holyoke alumna, Katie Roche. We are affiliated with the United States Naginata Federation, a member of the International Naginata Federation. The current club captain is Missy Rice. Practices are held five times a week for two hours at the Kendall Sports and Dance Complex at the college. The club also hosts seasonal events inviting naginata practitioners from across America and all around the world.
