Role of SGA Treasurer :

The Treasurer is a member of the Student Government Association (SGA) executive board, and conducts all financial business of the SGA. She is responsible for the distribution of the Student Activities Fee. She supervises and coordinates activities of the treasurers of all organizations registered with Student Programs. She may also chair the Ways and Means Committee. In addition, she sits on the Student Planning and Finance Committee and works closely with both the College Treasurer and Comptroller.

The Role of the Ways and Means Committee:

There are 8-10 women who serve on the Ways and Means Committee each academic year. As a group the Ways and Means Committee reviews budget proposals and allocates funding (Regular, Contingency, Special, and all other financial proposals). Every committee member is responsible for a number of organizations during the year. This means that your Ways and Means Liaison should be available to answer any of your questions about funding, budgets or SGA in general. She also audits your organization at the end of each semester (reviewing your books and record keeping) to ensure that your organization is in good financial standing. Feel free to contact your Liaison with questions, comments or concerns; that is what she is there for. If you are unaware of who your Ways and Means Liaison is, please go to the SGA website, where a list of Ways and Means Liaisons can be found under “funding.” A list can also be found on page 25 of this handbook. Please attempt to contact your Ways and Means Liaison before contacting the SGA Treasurer

The Role of an Organizational Treasurer:

As the treasurer, you are a crucial part of your organization. You are responsible for filing funding requests, managing your organization’s books, complying with audits, submitting budget proposals, serving as a contact person with the Ways and Means Committee and advocating for your organization’s funding requests. Communication between you and the other members of your organization is essential. You must keep yourself current with the activity of your organization and keep them within the allocated budget.

Throughout the course of the academic year, you hold onto your organization’s records. You MUST turn all financial records (ledger, receipts, statements, etc.) into the SGA Treasurer before leaving campus in May. NO ORGANIZATION CAN KEEP ITS RECORDS OVER THE SUMMER. If the financial records are not turned in prior to the end of the semester, your organization will be subject to a fine of 10% of your semester allocation.
