Mission Statement

We, the students of the Environmental Studies Senior Seminar hope to educate and inspire students, faculty and staff of Mount Holyoke College through our efforts and research contained within this website. We aim to achieve a more sustainable campus by promoting environmental responsibility, conservation of resources, energy efficiency, and increased reliance on renewable energy sources.

Codes of Conduct

It is the hopes of the students of this course that in the future, a code of conduct for better energy conservation will be drafted for use by students. This is to make students aware of our energy consumption as a campus so they will be able to take more responsiblity for their energy use. Therefore, we found that it would be helpful for students to have examples of codes of conduct to reference in the writing process. For help in the writing process, there are also areas that offer suggestions in how to write a code of conduct.

A code of conduct is considered to be a set of conventional principles and expectations that are considered binding on any person who is a member of a particular group. This code is a formal statement that includes values and principles practiced by a business, corporation or organization. They can be a small mission statement to a text that asks for agreement with the stated regulations consisting of an enforcement rule.

Suggestions for writing a code of conduct:

- Use common language that is easily understood by all.

- Use active voice rather than passive voice.

- Keep sentences brief, so as to keep the reader's attention.

- Think of the values, beliefs and expectations of the group.

- Be clear in stating the goals you want accomplished.

- Give examples when needed.

- Revise and update the code when necessary.

- Give references for outside information and assistance.

-Tools for Managing Sustainable Tourism

-Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries
