Looking Into the Future
There is still work to be done!

It has been the goal of the Environmental Studies Senior Seminar to educate and inspire students, faculty, and staff at Mount Holyoke with the hopes of achieving a more sustainable and environmentally conscious campus. Throughout the semester we have researched the history and current use patterns of energy consumption at Mount Holyoke as well as examined the perceived future energy needs of the college. The Environmental Studies Senior Seminar class hopes that our work in this area will continue in the coming years. We have named our website “Campus Energy Initiative” with the hope and intention that our project will become an ongoing campus initiative. There is still much work to be done!

We have identified the following specific projects that need to be addressed and we hope that students in the coming years will work to ensure their completion:

-An environmental Code of Conduct for students

-Establishment of a Campus Energy Policy

-The formation of a campus energy group that will work in conjunction with the other MHC environmental groups as well as with environmental organizations on campuses nationwide.

-A study examining the feasibility of renewable energy at Mount Holyoke

-A ‘State of the Environment’ report

-A campus energy audit

-Organize events for Earth Day

-A campus course on renewable energy
