Mentor: Steve Roof

Hampshire College
Steve Roof has been teaching at Hampshire College for seven years.
He has been doing research in the Arctic since 1992 and climate
change research since 1985. His dissertation research focused on
reconstructing middle Pleistocene glaciations in northwestern Alaska
and establishing the links between sea level, sea ice, moisture
availability, and the initiation of glaciation at high latitudes.
Since arriving at Hampshire College in 1995, Steve has been working
mentoring undergraduate students and directing student-centered
research on late Pleistocene climate change in Death Valley, California.
Steve also mentors senior thesis projects in geochemistry and climate
change. All of Steve.s senior students have participated in and
presented their results at regional and national professional meetings.
