Martha Ackmann is an author, journalist and speaker who writes about women who have changed America. Her essays and columns have appeared in The New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, Salon and many other publications around the country. Her award-winning book, "The Mercury 13: The Untold Story of Thirteen Women and the Dream of Space Flight" (Random House) was named one of the top non-fiction books for 2003 by BookMarks magazine and won the Amelia Earhart Medal. Martha also is a commentator for National Public Radio. She teaches in the Gender Studies Department at Mount Holyoke College. She is currently working on a new book about women and baseball.
