Rachel Shapiro is a Barnard College senior Writing Fellow now student-teaching in a high school in the Bronx. Her work with urban students has encouraged a desire to explode issues of educational equity, accessibility, and difference. She has begun research on the implications of Informal Language and the development of urban vocabulary without reference to historical contingency. She plans to continue this work next year while teaching in the South Pacific.
